Amo Christum / (ensemble) / (in collaboration with Stichting Vox interna) The Late Middle Ages are of great importance to Europe, as they marked the beginning of developments that had a lasting impact on the further history and development of Europe. This period also saw the founding of influential monastic orders such as the Franciscans, Dominicans and Cistercians. Amo Christum is entirely devoted to the Cistercians; their spirituality, mysticism and music. Songs from German monasteries, such as the Paradiese manuscript from Soest (Germany), are placed alongside songs from the Spanish monastery of Las Huelgas in Burgos (Las Huelgas Codex), because the connections between the monasteries formed a strong network that stretched across Europe. The religious women's movements of the 12th and 13th centuries found an ideal space in the seclusion of the Cistercian monasteries. The rise of the many nunneries can also be linked to the beginning of the persecution of the Beguines. Through their lived practice of Cistercian spirituality, they ultimately acted in the spirit of the Charta Caritatis, which repeatedly emphasises the bond of love. / Sunday, 26 October, 12.30 hrs. / Deutsche Evangelische Gemeinde, Blijenburg 3B, Den Haag.

Maria * Maryam – sound and light in dialogue / (ensemble) / In many cultures and religions, Mary - Our Lady, Maryam - is seen as mother, guardian and source of life. In her we honor not only the mother of Jesus, but also the primordial woman: from the Magna Mater in Ephesus to protector of man, animals and nature. "In the evening the morning star, Mary, illuminates the shadow of the word." (Sol oritur). An image of hope, in which Mary softens the darkness and brings light at the end of the day. In this special evening program, maqam and Gregorian music dialogue with each other. Sounds from different times and worlds meet: - Gregorian melodies from the Notre-Dame school of Paris, - mystical chants of Hildegard von Bingen from the Rhineland tradition, - Persian and European texts, brought together in an atmosphere of stillness and connection.
