Lucia Mense, Cora Schmeiser and Dietmar Bonnen ran into each other in November 2012 during a sound workshop by Ars Choralis Coeln in the Cologne Kolumba Museum. They soon found out that they shared a range of musical preferences. That same year they founded the LUNYALA trio.

Since then they have been turning shared ideas into sounds, interweaving Dadaism, contemporary and medieval music, using voice, steel drum, recorders, Widerstand, shrutibox, raakdoos, casio, toy piano, kalimba, singing bowls, milk frother and coffee grinder. They link Hildegard von Bingen and John Cage to Daniil Charms; Oswald von Wolkenstein and Manfred Nienhaus match with Isang Yun; Kurt Schwitters and Philipp Glass coincide with Friedrich Hölderlin… The soft palate, glottal beats and fluttering tongues drive the sound journey!

On Saturday, October 29, 2022, the LUNYALA TRIO celebrated its 10th anniversary with a free concert in the auditorium of the Karl-Rahner-Akademie in Cologne. Guest musicians Maria Jonas, Bassem Hawar & Peter Hölscher took part.
